At Fabrikken for Art & Design, a former factory in Copenhagen, UKURANT Makes Room brought together 26 experimental works by emerging designers from around the world. Presented during 3daysofdesign, the exhibition treated the room itself as part of the inquiry: how objects are made, what materials allow, and which choices shape a finished work.

Rather than arranging each piece as a polished endpoint, the exhibition foregrounded the thinking behind it. Material trials, craft and production methods sat close to the objects, inviting visitors to read design as a sequence of decisions. The result was a gathering shaped as much by process as by form, with individual practices testing familiar traditions through new approaches.

The installation’s most direct gesture was its series of large paper podiums. Built from rented stage platforms, the display system gave the works a shared visual ground while limiting the need for newly fabricated furniture. Its restrained scale kept attention on the objects and made the temporary architecture legible as a considered material choice.

Founded in 2019, Ukurant has developed an experimental platform for young designers, using its annual exhibition to make space for work that sits outside fixed categories. The 2026 presentation extended that role: a collective portrait of practices negotiating the relationship between material, making and commercial design.

Curated and designed by Ukurant’s founders, the show gathered approaches from across disciplines and geographies. Together, the works suggested that experimentation need not be separate from production; it can instead be a way of asking more precise questions about resources, use and the life of an object.
