Modern Art is a contemporary art gallery founded in London in 1998 by the British dealer Stuart Shave. Since November 2025 its London home has been a building on Bennet Street in St James’s, and it also runs a space in Paris on Place de l’Alma.

Before the move, the gallery spent 14 years in three converted warehouse units on Helmet Row, near the Barbican, which opened with an exhibition by Eva Rothschild. Exhibitions there included Nicolas Deshayes, Lois Dodd, Peter Halley, Yngve Holen, Francesca Mollett, Ron Nagle and Richard Tuttle. Speaking to frieze about the move in 2025, Shave said the building felt “tied into who we are”, but that he was “excited to move on”.

The St James’s building gives the gallery 4,700 square feet of pillar-free exhibition space, two viewing rooms and a library. Eighteenth-century windows that the previous occupant had shuttered were reopened in the renovation. Shave described the move as a way to bring the gallery and its whole team under one roof, and to streamline a programme that had been running at about 14 exhibitions a year, since much of the gallery’s work is as an agent and producer for its artists.

Bennet Street opened on 15 November 2025 with Polygrapher, the first solo exhibition by the American painter Joseph Yaeger since the gallery announced his representation. The title also names a text by the artist, published in the exhibition booklet: an interrogation he underwent while attached to a Stoelting UltraScribe, in which only his answers were transcribed. The exhibition ran until 17 January 2026.
